Welcome back my friend! Today we are welcoming a Fuchsia Freezer Recipe Review from another canadian chef, Michael Smith. This past Christmas my mom bought me his latest cookbook, Family Meals. I love love love this cookbook, and can’t rave enough about it. I have made several meals from this cookbook, and everyone around my table has loved them. That’s why I thought I would take a stab at this main dish, pork chops! I picked up four thick & juicy chops from my local grocery store for about $9 total. In my mind, that’s a cost efficient meal, especially when the biggest expense of any dish can be the meat itself.
I love pork chops, and although Clint isn’t really crazy about them, I thought the pan sauce would be the one thing that would help kick these up a notch and even impress him. Well, I was right! These are yet another great weeknight meal. Easy and delicious, and the orange flavour really makes them taste fantastic! They were juicy and full of flavour, and while they were cooking, I had time to make a side garden salad with spinach and extra vegetables in my fridge.
As you probably see in most of my posts on main dishes, I make salad. It’s my go-to… my default… but this blog is now pushing that the forefront, and my new challenge is to come up with easy weeknight sides. Really, who wants to eat salad every night of the week, I know we don’t! Although i do love salad, it can get a little boring so keep an eye out for some inspired sides coming.
Back to the chops… this easy to make meal is just one of many recipes in the Family Meals cookbook that we have discovered. I really followed this recipe to the tee and didn’t feel the need to make any changes or substitutions. They are perfect the way they are! I also enjoyed a meatless monday meal with a mexican lasagna, and a broccoli bowl with peanut sauce. Both were also fantastic.
I like that this cookbook has plenty of meal options, and is sectioned off into weeknight meals, meatless, salads etc… easy to read and easy to follow directions mean that I can even ask Clint to start dinner, and he won’t let lost! This isn’t the first cook book of his that I have, and really recommend this book to anyone who’s new to cooking, or looking to feel a little more adventurous in the kitchen but still follow a recipe.
I hope you enjoyed this little cookbook and recipe review and thank you so much for stopping by again. Hope your weekend is enjoyable and you’re spending lots of time with the ones your love! Now I think it’s time to grab a cup of coffee and make some breakfast! Follow me on instagram to see what’s I’m making next! It’s always a sure fire way to see what will be coming up on the blog next! I’m thinking… French Toast… or maybe some potato salad for dinner tomorrow night… the possibilities are endless!
