Welcome back to another week, and happy monday? Ok sometimes not so much, but maybe a cool refreshing mocktail – or cocktail for those who do enjoy one every now and again – will help brighten up the first day of the week. I have already given you one of my own in the form of The “Soon-to-be” Spring Mocktail, and I received a really great response. That got me thinking… what else could I create that would be delicious, and refreshing… and since it’s summer, it’s the season of ‘gatherings’ so this is the perfect time to try yet another recipe.
Then I was browsing through a cookbook/lifestyle book my Mom recently gave me, and I stumbled upon this little gem. How could I not say yes and give this Grapefruit Thyme Spritz by Daphne Oz a whirl?!
The beauty of this delectable drink is that there is a choice… the addition (or not) of vodka. That means everyone can enjoy this. Since plain vodka doesn’t have a taste there won’t be difference in the drink itself.I have to say I like this book, and her pictures in it (i’m a sucker for food photography) are absolutely amazing. I will warn you though this isn’t a true cookbook. It really does encompass a lifestyle component to it. Each chapter provides some ‘food’ or ‘food for thought’ along with a look into Daphne herself and how she became the woman she is today. It’s a nice touch, incorporating food into her life and her life into her food. She has tips and tricks on how to navigate the supermarket, what to spend on when it comes to clothing, and what to save on when buying home accessories. All in all it’s a well rounded book, but like I said I wouldn’t classify it as a straight forward cook book. This spritzer was a simple drink to master and everyone here enjoyed it! It was the first time I have made a simple syrup and clearly the name says it all… it was so simple. I made enough (thyme infused simple syrup) to make another batch of these for later this week. Even the girls got in on this drink.
All in all I would have to say this recipe was delicious and if it’s any indication as to what else will come from this book, I will have to try it… who knows she has a ‘beauty’ section and I may venture into making a face mask she recommends! 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by today, and I hope you have find a new and refreshing way to keep cool, and enjoy your friends this summer. I definitely think that I will be making these for my next get together shortly… heck I might have to make something up just to get people over so I can make these!
Also, stay tuned… this coming Wednesday something very exciting is coming to Fuchsia Freezer! I can barely keep it a secret… but here’s a hint… Foodie Mamas! Have a wonderful day everyone! Cheers!
